Piercing Aftercare:

1. Always wash your hands thoroughly before beginning the cleaning process. NEVER touch your piercing with dirty hands
2. In the shower/bath run warm water over the piercing and jewelry to soften the crusties (hardened material on the jewelry)
3. Use only a white soap (Dove, Ivory Baby) with no perfumes to carefully wash the piercing, making sure to then wash off the soap.
4. At this point you should move the jewelry (only while still in the shower).
5.
DO NOT use/apply alcohol, peroxide, harsh cleaners or chemicals.
6. No sexual contact with piercing or jewelry etc. Including any oral piercing.
7. Do not use makeup or hair products etc… to or around the newly pierced area, if this happens rewash the piercing again.
8. You can downsize to shorter jewelry once the piercing is fully healed.

Oral Piercings – Tounge, Lips
1. Rinse 3 times a day with diluted mouthwash, preferably alcohol free.
2. After you eat, drink, or smoke anything, rinse your mouth with water.
3. Abstain from kissing and oral sex during the healing time.

Note:
Good hygiene is important when healing a piercing, NEVER touch your piercing with dirty hands. Don’t clean the piercing too much, and be gentle with the jewelry. Too much movement of the jewelry can increase the amount of scar tissue your body produces. Be aware of the clothing you are wearing. Some types of clothing (belts, tight pants) consistently rub the jewelry and piercing, causing soreness and redness.

Pay attention to unexpected changes in the site. Consider seeking medical attention if there is evidence of infection. Signs of infection may include:

– Discharge that is green or yellow from the piercing.
– Swelling and redness after the first few days.
– Pain and redness or red streaks radiating out from the piercing.
– Splitting, oozing or cracking and bleeding of a piercing received more than one week ago.
– Migration (movement of the piercing) up through layers of skin.
– A lump or bump forming at the base of the piercing.

If there is evidence of an allergic reaction. Signs may include:

– Difficulty breathing and swelling of the tongue within hours of a piercing especially an oral piercing.
– A rash or hives soon after a piercing.
